Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Renal Disease

چکیده
Although not as common as other genetic renal diseases such as autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, patients with tuberous sclerosis complex frequently have significant renal involvement. Recent revelations in the cell biology of these renal disease manifestations as well as effective therapies for tuberous sclerosis complex-related renal issues have heralded hope of improved renal survival and improved quality of life for the TSC patient. This review specifically addresses some of the major renal manifestations of this disease. Copyright © 2010 S. Karger AG, Basel

متن کاملImprovement in Renal Cystic Disease of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex After Treatment with Mammalian Target of Rapamycin Inhibitor.
Renal cysts occur in approximately 50% of patients with tuberous sclerosis complex, but their clinical significance and response to treatment are unknown. Abdominal imaging of 15 patients with tuberous sclerosis complex-associated renal cystic disease who had received mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor therapy for other tuberous sclerosis complex-related indications was evaluated. Reductio...
متن کاملTuberous sclerosis presented with polycystic kidney disease and acute renal failure.
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by hamartomatous involvement of multiple organs such as the skin, central nervous system, kidneys, lungs, and heart. A linkage has been found with a locus on the long arm of chromosome 9 (9q34) and with a locus on the short arm of chromosome 16 (16p13). TSC has a birth incidence of 1/6000. Children with TSC are alm...
متن کاملAssociation of Pemphigus Vulgaris and Tuberous Sclerosis: A case report
Pemphigus vulgaris is a blistering autoimmune disease with suprabasal cleft formation, which is the most common autoimmune blistering disease in eastern countries, such as Middle East. Predisposition to pemphigus is linked to genetic factors. Tuberous sclerosis is also a genetic disorder of hamartoma formation in many organs, particularly the skin, brain, eye, kidney and heart. We report ...
متن کاملTuberous Sclerosis and Bilateral Renal Angiomyolipomas: A Case Report and Literature Review of Emerging Treatment Strategies
Tuberous sclerosis complex is a rare multisystemic genetic disorder associated with the development of benign hamartomas. Angiomyolipomas are one such characteristic finding that may be seen in 55-80% of tuberous sclerosis complex patients. While being normally asymptomatic, they can also cause significant morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a patient with tuberous sclerosis complex...
